Rita Lewis has my endorsement for the Council City seat in District 8. A native Denverite, who grew up in the city’s northeast neighborhoods, Rita understands of District ‘s history as well as its current and futuristic needs. As a longtime resident myself, I have long admired Rita’s personal integrity and her track record. She has always been highly visible serving as an attorney, former president of the Denver NAACP, sorority member, and so many other civic efforts since high school. Rita Lewis will be the ideal council person—she has exactly what it takes to adequately represent the people of District 8.

Rita Lewis would be an excellent choice for Denver City Council -District 8. As the former President of the NAACP Denver and former CO Civil Rights Commission she speaks up for the needs of BIPOC and disabled communities. As the former Executive Director of Denver Metro Fair Housing Center she is well versed in the needs of people facing housing discrimination and has worked with housing professionals regarding evictions, foreclosures and she is passionate about helping those facing homelessness.

I am very pleased to give an endorsement for Rita Lewis as she runs for the City Council seat in District 8. Ms. Lewis is a very capable community leader who will best represent the interests of the people in this district. As a longtime resident, she knows and understands what the issues are. For example, I have worked with After working with Ms. Lewis around the shortage of affordable housing, I am aware of her extensive knowledge and experience in housing. Her experience as an attorney and her leadership as president of the Denver NAACP and collaborative work with other community organizations have also well-prepared Ms. Lewis to hit the ground running as a council person. I cannot commend Ms. Lewis highly enough as the right person to represent District 8. I am sure her contributions will benefit the entire city of Denver as well.

Council District 8 deserves someone with the dedication and lived experience to understand and stand strong for our community. Rita Lewis has proven her dedication over decades of public service. I trust her with my beloved hometown city!

Rita Lewis would be a wonderful addition to Denver’s City Council. She is passionate, innovative and indefatigable. She is a long time community rights activist with whom I had the pleasure of working while we served together on the Executive Committee of the NAACCP Denver Branch. She has always proven herself willing and able to take on the tough issues, even those that are quite controversial and unpopular, never caving to those who seek power rather than the true representation of the people. She would fiercely advocate for her working class constituents, not big corporate special interests.

I am supporting Ms. Rita Lewis for Denver City Council as a former member of the George Washington High School staff, a retired high school football coach and administrator. When Rita was a student of mine at George Washington High School, she was a very intelligent and dedicated young lady performing her best in my biology class. Rita was also very involved in various student activities and school functions. She performed at the top of her class and was well liked by all students. I am thoroughly please to support Rita because she is a dedicated person in trying to make our community as productive and safe as possible. She is a friendly, tremendous communicator, has creativity in all ideas, and has wonderful leadership qualities. She is a listener of all concepts and maintains an ability to consciously make decisions which improve our community. As an engaged advocate and attorney providing support and recommendations to the Denver community, she has been instrumental based on her active participation, in being a positive impact to our community. I am so pleased that she is choosing to become active in the political arena.

I can think of no one better qualified for a City Council position for District 8 in Denver than Rita Lewis. Her experience as the Executive Director of the Denver Metro Fair Housing Center gives great credibility to her desire to create change in the housing issues of the diverse Park Hill neighborhood. Rita has the know how to address affordability, access, and discrimination for those most impacted by the challenging Denver housing market. As a caregiver for my 92-year-old father, I am especially impressed with her interest in giving caregivers a “living wage” as one valuable use of the large marijuana tax revenue our state incurs. Rita’s leadership background as both an attorney and past president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) give her unparalleled qualifications for the political office she is seeking. Being a native and resident of Park Hill gives Rita the heart and compassion to connect with and serve her constituents of District 8.

I worked with Rita Lewis extensively on Colorado rights regarding evictions, foreclosures and affordable housing when she was the Executive Director of Denver Metro Fair Housing Center. She is a committed Champion for Fair Housing in Denver and all of Colorado as she is solution driven. Rita's passion and knowledge for helping people facing eviction, foreclosure and discrimination is astounding! Rita Lewis is exactly the the type of representation Denver needs to move forward being Equitable for ALL!
