Helping Denver Residents
I want to help residents that live in Denver because it has become way too expensive to live in Denver. I will advocate for caregivers to receive a "living wage" and receive health insurance through Denver Health. I want to create gasoline, grocery and utility vouchers for those who can only afford to pay their rent or mortgage. I will work with DPD on reducing crime in Denver starting with installing speed bumps in District 8 and discuss ways to reduce car and catalytic converter thefts.
Pro Choice
I strongly believe it is a woman's right to make decisions about "her body" and I am a proud Pro-Choice advocate.
Immigration
As an immigration attorney, I promote immigrants obtaining U.S. citizenship and support anti-xenophobia policies.
Reasonable “Rent Control”
We desperately need to place a cap on the rising prices of rent. However, we not only need viable programs for tenants but we also need programs to help Mom & Pop Landlords that are making their properties available but they can't afford to pay their mortgages either. We need to create a "win-win" scenario. The price to live in Denver is negatively impacting everyone, so we need to create financial incentives to help everyone survive this housing crisis.
Transportation Infrastructure
Advocate for a transportation infrastructure that services all residents in Denver by recommending that residents have access to more stops in their respective neighborhoods so they can travel throughout Denver and surrounding cities.
Common-Sense Local Ordinances
Creating local ordinances that make sense to our residents and not "overburden" them.
Accessible Living Spaces
Creating more accessible living spaces for the homeless population that would include vital “wrap-around” mental health, medical and food voucher services.
Housing Discrimination
Often tenants and homeowners are discriminated against based on their race, disability, religion, sexual orientation and familial status. Housing is a human right. Most individuals and families fall within a protected class and should be treated fairly regardless of their rental or homeowner status.
Attainable “Affordable Housing”
I will advocate for "Attainable" Affordable Housing because the current Affordable Housing guidelines often times "boxes" prospective homeowners out of the process. The program needs to be revamped so people can afford to buy a home.
These are simple realistic goals for District 8! We must get back to the “cozy, safe home” feeling of living in Denver rather than the “overpriced, gothic” standard of living similar to a Batman movie.
